Cellcard, together with its strategic partner, Huawei, mobilize plans to reinforce coverage and connectivity in line with Samdech Techo Hun Sen’s call to bolster digital access at tourist areas.
In the Closing Ceremony of the Tourism General Meeting held 14 July 2022, Samdech urged all Telecom operators to strengthen its network, and for Telephone and Internet companies to expand their reach of service beyond the key cities to cover tourist destinations, as well as provincial and remote areas.
Samdech expressed the importance of digital access by siting the Covid-19 Pandemic and expressed the need to be one-step ahead through proactive and continuous enhancements by service providers.
Cellcard’s network expansion project will see the deployment of more than 200 new sites with Huawei’s advanced technology, improving both coverage and network performance in tourist areas, including national protected areas, national parks and islands.
Cellcard’s Chief Executive Officer, Simon Perkins, said that the initiative intends to cover, not only tourist areas, but will also be rolled out through rural areas across the country to ensure that tourists to the country are able to access the internet regardless where they go in Cambodia.
The New Express Way (PP-SHV) is also part of the expansion plan, improving connectivity between Phnom Penh and the coastal area of Sihanoukville, which is a major tourist destination.
With the efforts above and further more investment, Cellcard will be fully committed to meet the standards of QoS Prakas which has been officially announced by MPTC on July 19, 2022.
