Slaprea and Beyond: Cambodia’s Biggest Food Festival Returns 

Phnom Penh is once again gearing up for Slaprea, Cambodia’s Biggest Food Festival, brought to you by GANZBERG, making a spectacular return from December 8 to 10 at the iconic National Olympic Stadium. This year, the festival takes on the theme “Slaprea and Beyond,” promising an unforgettable experience that not only celebrates diverse flavors, but also embraces the rich cultures that surround them.

Slaprea is not just your average food festival – it’s a culinary journey that will transport you from traditional dishes steeped in history to innovative fusions that push the boundaries of taste. As you wander through the festival grounds, you’ll encounter fellow foodies and passionate vendors who are eagerly waiting to share their love for food and culture with you. Slaprea is a melting pot of flavors, a place where connections are made and a sense of togetherness is fostered.

As the theme suggests, Slaprea goes beyond just indulging in delicious food. The festival is committed to making a positive impact on the environment by promoting responsible waste management. To achieve this, they have implemented an innovative bin design and production that allows festival-goers to easily identify which bin to dispose of their waste in. In a bid to further reinforce waste separation, Slaprea will charge a reasonable fee upon entrance, 2,000 riels or 0.50 USD, hoping our festival goers will contribute to our missions which will be used to invest in bin production and control and waste management research. This initiative ensures that the waste collected during the festival is properly segregated, reducing its environmental impact.

A strong supporter of this endeavor, GANZBERG beer returns as the co-organizer and Platinum sponsor of the festival. Volunteer Nation, Slaprea’s volunteer arm, has previously worked with Creal Cambodia to bring in eager volunteers who assisted with waste management, decorations, and stage preparations. Volunteer Mak Pich fondly remembers their experience, stating, “The joyful moments we had during Slaprea were remarkably meaningful, and I really miss it. I hope to enjoy these beautiful moments with Slaprea and everyone again!”

Furthermore, Gomi Recycle, a plastic waste recycling company and Slaprea’s Recycling sponsor, to ensure proper waste management. Gomi Recycle will have a dedicated truck on-site to collect and recycle plastic, aluminum, paper, and clothing waste.

As the Event Manager of Slaprea, Buddhisatt Suon expresses their pride in the success of the previous edition and eagerly anticipates this year’s festival, stating, “Slaprea promises to be even more extraordinary this year! Slaprea is a celebration of diverse flavors, cultures, and positive community values. Established in 2017, Slaprea has become a beloved tradition in Cambodia, bringing families and friends together. Last May, the festival attracted an astounding 150,000 festival-goers over the course of three days.

Now within less than 10 days, Slaprea has sold out all 170+ booths to their vendors.
