The International Women’s Peace Group (IWPG, Chairwoman Hyun Sook Yoon) held an online ceremony on the 26th at 8:00 pm (local time) under the theme of “Women’s Cooperation for the Implementation of Sustainable Peace” to commemorate the 3rd Annual Commemoration of the April 26th “International Women’s Peace Day”. The ceremony was simultaneously translated into six languages and was broadcasted live throughout the world, and it was announced that this year, the solidarity of 3.9 billion women would be taken to the next level.

“International Women’s Peace Day” was first declared on April 26, 2019 with the wish for the ‘realization of peace and cessation of war’, in which women around the world work in solidarity to protect precious lives from war and to pass on peace as a legacy to future generations. This day is gaining the support of numerous leaders and women, including first ladies and queen, ambassadors, parliamentarians, politicians, journalists, religious and national leaders.

The event started with a commemorative speech by Chairwoman Hyun Soo Yoon followed by a congratulatory remark by H.E. Lamiya Al-eryani of Yemen (founder of the Yemen Peace School), who is the former Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Technical Education of Yemen, and by Dr. Roshan Ara, who is an assistant professor at University of Kashmir in India. There was a video urging support of the DPCW and its activities, an IWPG advisory council and publicity ambassador appointment ceremony, and congratulatory performances. About 1,000 women leaders and members from 62 countries attended this event.

In the commemorative address, Chairwoman Hyun Sook Yoon said, “IWPG declared this day as the ‘International Women’s Peace Day’ three years ago with the promise to achieve peace in this era and to leave a beautiful world free from war as a legacy to our descendants. Since 2012, the reality of today is that more than 100,000 people die every year from conflict, and more than 50 conflicts at the national level occur every year.” “The answer to the problem is not far away. It is the “Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War” first declared by HWPL, a peace cooperation organization, on March 14, 2016. The declaration also mentions follow-up measures to prevent the outbreak of war by resolving the causes of war and to ensure that the world continues to do so after the end of the war,” she added.

Former Minister Lamiya Al-eryani said, “IWPG’s mission is to achieve gender equality in solidarity with 3.9 billion women around the world, to end wars and to create a world where world peace is achieved.”

In her speech regarding “The Worth of DPCW and the Role of Leaders for World Peace”, Dr. Roshan Ara said, “Kashmir has long been a chaotic region and has suffered a lot from conflicts that have continued over the past 30 years. I have been lucky to be connected with IWPG in Korea and continue to be motivated. DPCW also contains the meaning of true peace. All leaders should discuss and support the DPCW, and IWPG Headquarters should distribute this document around the world. The IWPG network will be successfully completed.”

The interview video to urge support of the DPCW by diverse women around the world for the 3rd Annual Commemoration is bringing more interest and participation into the peace movements.

IWPG is an international women’s NGO in special consultative status with the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and registered under the Global Communications Commission (DGC). It is headquartered in Korea with 100 branches and 450 cooperative organizations around the world.
