SINGAPORE EMBASSY CONGRATULATES ASEAN SCHOLARSHIP AWARD RECIPIENTS 30 OCTOBER 2025
On 30 October 2025, the Singapore Embassy in Phnom Penh hosted a ceremony to congratulate recipients of the Academic Year 2026 ASEAN Scholarship Award and their parents. The award offers outstanding students from ASEAN countries, including Cambodia, the opportunity to pursue secondary and pre-university education in Singapore.

The ASEAN Scholarship provides a comprehensive four-year educational journey, starting from Secondary 3 and culminating in the Singapore-Cambridge GCE A-Level certificate or its equivalent. Beyond academic excellence, the award will also foster critical thinking, leadership skills, and cross-cultural understanding, preparing the students to be global citizens and future leaders.

This year’s scholarship recipients are: Thay Samrithikun, Tuon Chanveasna, Taing Chumpounut, and Kim Setharoth.
Dr. Nguon Sokcheng, Deputy Director General of Higher Education at the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport, attended as one of the Guests-of-Honour. In her remarks, Dr. Nguon emphasised that this scholarship represents a direct investment in the high-calibre human capital essential to achieving Cambodia’s Pentagonal Strategy and contributing to the long-term prosperity of the ASEAN community. Addressing the scholars, she said: “You are strategic ambassadors for Cambodia. As you advance in the rigorous STEM fields, you are preparing to become the skilled professionals driving Cambodia’s digital transformation, innovation, and economic resilience”.
The Embassy also invited Judy Kuy, recipient of the Academic Year 2023 ASEAN Scholarship, to deliver a video message. Ms Kuy shared heartfelt advice with the new scholars, encouraging them to stay connected with their families and be open and sociable as they adjust to a new environment. She said: “Coming to Singapore has completely changed who I am – be prepared to see that change in yourself too, as you will be challenged, make mistakes, and ultimately, be forced to become a better version of you.” She urged them to embrace the academic rigor with resilience, seek help when needed, and let every challenge inspire them to grow stronger.
The ASEAN Scholarship is a testament to Singapore’s long-standing commitment to human resource development. It underscores the belief that investing in young talent is critical to shaping future generations of leaders.
