This afternoon, the Singapore Embassy hosted a ceremony to congratulate recipients of the Academic Year 2024 ASEAN Scholarship Award and their proud parents.

The ASEAN Scholarship offers outstanding youths from countries such as Cambodia a unique opportunity to study in Singapore. The Scholarship is valid for four years from Secondary 3 to Pre-university 2 level. Students will graduate with the Singapore-Cambridge GCE A-Level certificate, or similar qualification.

This year’s recipients are Chan Mengmonichesda, Ung Helen, Houy Hollyvan, Kuy Kokwing, Ketyarath Sopanha and Kim Channchesda.

Ambassador Teo Lay Cheng said that the award is a testament to the students’ hard work, relentless pursuit of knowledge and determination to excel. “To the parents, your unwavering support, sacrifices, and guidance have played a pivotal role in nurturing these brilliant young minds”, she added.

The Ambassador also highlighted that “the ASEAN Scholarship is an excellent example of Singapore’s steadfast belief in the importance of human capital development as means to a brighter future. This is a philosophy which Cambodia also shares”.

Explaining that education was not just about textbooks and exams, the Ambassador also expressed the hope that the students would take the opportunity to understand different cultures and form abiding friendships during their stay in Singapore.

She called on the scholarship recipients to contribute to Cambodia’s growth when they complete their studies. She said: “the award is not just an accolade. As you commence a collective journey towards a bright future, I hope that you will remember to apply the knowledge and experience gained to serve your country when you return”.
