Samdech Thipadei Prime Minister Recognized Huawei Technologies for its participation with GDCE

(Phnom Penh) At the 19th Government-Private Sector held on Monday (Nov. 13) at the Peace Palace, the Prime Minister of Cambodia said that “A total of 49 enterprises have been awarded “Best Trader” status by the General Department of Customs and Excise (GDCE), and two others enterprise are applying for “AEO.”

According to STPM, the General Department of Customs and Excise has introduced the “Authorized Economic Operator” and “Best Trader” systems to give highly compliant businesses preferential treatment while importing and exporting commodities, with the goal of further enhancing Cambodia’s business environment.

STPM mentioned that 49 companies have been awarded the “best trader” certification, and two companies are applying for AEO certification, namely Huawei and Minebea.

To recap back, Huawei Technologies (Cambodia) was also granted the “Best Trader” status by the General Department of Customs and Excise in 2022.

“We encourage and welcome more enterprises to follow Huawei Technologies and participate in the program of the GDCE. “said Prime Minister Hun Manet.

STPM also instructed the General Department of Customs and Excise to further improve and promote the “AEO” and “Best Trader” systems to encourage more enterprises to improve legal compliance and thus qualify for preferential treatment.

“The government would rather be a’supporter’ than a’police’… we want more enterprises and customs to cooperate and voluntarily comply with the law.”

The General Department of Customs and Excise introduced the “Authorized Economic Operator (AEO)” and “Best Trader” certification system in June 2014, and the certified will benefit a number of convenient treatments.

This system is one of the Cambodian government’s trade facilitation policies and an important project in the five-year (2019-2023) reform and modernization strategy of the GDCE.

Currently, GDCE is encouraging more enterprises to participate in the scheme to meet the standards on a voluntary basis and to work closely with the department.
